We’re so proud to announce that we’ve joined forces with ZLC Energy as part of our mission to increase our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. During our recent refurbishment, we were super excited to work with the Cornish energy business to install renewable energy solutions as a way for us to become more sustainable.
We first teamed up with ZLC Energy in 2017, when they installed an amazing Solar PV system for us to generate electricity directly from sunlight. We found that their values were so in line with our vision for The Bowgie that, ever since we were granted planning consent for our refurbishment in 2018, many decisions were made with ZLC in mind!
Among the impressive work ZLC Energy has carried out for The Bowgie, the Ground Heat Source Pumps of 2019 was perhaps the most exciting project, drawing lots of interest from locals thanks to the heavy-duty equipment needed! The drilling of 8, 120 metre deep boreholes into our site was quite an undertaking, but we couldn’t be happier with the result! The pumps now supply brilliant underfloor heating which runs throughout our whole bar area keeping us delightfully toasty during the winter months, as well as supplying us with hot water for that all-important pot washing!
The installations that have been facilitated by ZLC Energy are a real feat of engineering and look pretty impressive, but one of the things we love most about them is how they have allowed us to start the move away from fossil fuels. In a world where we should be doing everything possible to help combat Climate Change, we’re extremely proud to now say that The Bowgie no longer has a coal fire or oil-based heating, and yet the bar is cosier than ever!
It’s been so rewarding collaborating with a local energy business to design bespoke solutions for The Bowgie, especially considering how old some parts of our building are (dating back to the 1700’s!). To watch our historic venue evolve into the eco-friendly, sustainable present has been such a treat! It’s meant so much to hear the commendations of the ZLC Managing Director, Matthew Shepherd, in regard to being so invested in the future and renewable technologies, adding a fresh, green chapter to our history.
The environment and Mother Nature are so important to us here at The Bowgie, so we’re determined to keep on brainstorming new plans to become even more sustainable and to further reduce our carbon output. We’re currently considering plans for adding charging points for Electric Vehicles to our car park to make our future even greener! Watch this space.
