Here at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, we are cheese lovers and we aren’t afraid to admit it. We like cheese of all strengths, smells, colours and ages. We like it grated melted and sliced and at times, we like to bite a chunk straight off the block (don’t pretend you haven’t done that before).
You therefore won’t be surprised to discover that we have a lovely selection of cheesy dishes on our menu to tempt all you fromage fans out there.
1. The humble sandwich or toastie.
Bread and cheese are a pairing that will always go well together. Food-fads come and go, but bread and cheese is definitely here to stay. That’s why we are proud to offer one of the following delicious cheesy/bready combos as either a sandwich for £5 or a toastie for £7.50. Go for cheese with pineapple, tomato, onion or ham…you’ll never be disappointed.
2. The Ploughman’s Lunch.
We like to think that anyone who spends their morning hard at work ploughing the land knows a good lunch when they see one. That’s why our ploughman’s lunch with salad, pickled onion, pickle, bread and a fat wedge of cheddar always hits the spot whether you plough the land or not.
3. Homemade Cauliflower Cheese – AKA The Ultimate Comfort Food.
Why this is so darn good we’ll never know. Cauliflower alone is a pretty mediocre vegetable but top it with cheese sauce, bake it and add a side of garlic bread and it becomes the tastiest, mood-lifting meal known to man.
4. Jacket Potato with Cheese and Beans.
We challenge anyone to turn their nose up at the flaky baked crust of the potato skin and the melted cheese that slowly and gently slides over the bean-covered, fluffy and buttery potato. It’s not haute cuisine…it’s better than that and at £7.95, you may as well have two!
5. Homemade Lasagne.
As you read this, we know you are already beginning to salivate at the thought of our cheesy, meaty, garlicy and tomatoey taste of heaven. You are imagining your fork breaking through the soft layers of delicious pasta. You are imagining mopping up the bechamel sauce with your portion of fries and your mouth is watering as you imagine savouring the flavours as they make their way into your belly.
6. Homemade Quiche.
Our daily choice of homemade quiche varies from plain cheese and tomato, to broccoli and ham or our quiche lorraine with delicious bacon lardons just crying out to be eaten. Our quiches are so yummy it would be rude not to devour a slice in record time. Plus ‘quiche’ sounds a bit like ‘kiss’ so you have the added enjoyment of causing confusement and amusement as you ask our waiter for one! We’re not sure how we feel about that much cheese in one sitting.
