Here at the Bowgie Inn, you already know we love a bit of surfing. We are perfectly located to enjoy plenty of surf action and next month we are proudly sponsoring The Surfaced Pro Surf Event at Watergate Bay.
One of the best things about surfing is that the ocean treats men and women equally… and we’re all for equality.
We don’t think women should be paid less, receive less recognition or have less interest shown in their achievements. Why? Women are heroes. They are equally brilliant to men and let’s face it, where would we be without them?
You may be reading this wondering why on earth we are wittering on about sexual equality in a blog that’s about sponsoring the Surfaced Pro Surf event….well, that’s the brilliant thing…. let us continue.
For years now, Cornwall has been spawning fantastic, world class surfers. Every generation of surfers seem to be getting better and better and Cornwall produces just as many great female surfers as it does male.
These female surfers have worked just as hard as the guys to get where they want to be. They have practised and have experienced the same wipeouts, dings and gnarly conditions. These girls have been hitting the waves at the crack of dawn just like the guys. They need the same level of skill to compete so it has always seemed strange to us that in 2016 – over 100 years after the suffragette movement might we add – that female surfers receive less prize money in surf competitions than their male counterparts?
That’s why The Surfaced Pro Surf Event hosted by The Extreme Academy is different….female surfers win the same prize money as the dudes!
WE’LL DRINK TO THAT!
That’s why The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, are proudly sponsoring the ladies event.
So come along and support all our surfers – both male and female – as they compete at The Surfaced Pro Surf Event at Watergate Bay on the 16th and 17th of April!
