So, we can all agree that 2020 hasn’t exactly been fun and games BUT we think we’re about to make it a whole lot better! Say hello to… Cask Ale Week 2020!
Running from 24th September – 4th October, it’s about coming together to encourage everyone to enjoy traditional real ale, spearheaded by Cask Marque.
If you’re a beer aficionado, this simply has to be in your calendar. It’s all about raising the profile of real ale across the country and here’s how The Bowgie is getting involved!
Throughout the course of Cask Ale Week, we are offering a number of real ales from Cornish breweries at a 25% off discounted price making them £3.60 per pint instead of £4.80. We are then donating that £1.20 per every pint sold to our chosen charity – Cornwall Hospice Care.
This charity provides specialist care for people with terminal illnesses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at Mount Edgecumbe Hospice in Hayle, St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle, and in Cornwall’s hospitals, care homes and in the community.
We have been proud supporters for years and it’s our privilege to include Cornwall Hospice Care in our Cask Ale Week activities.
Here’s what you’ll be able to enjoy:
Mr Fuggles Green Hop Ale – 4.5% ABV – Pale Ale. Vegan and Organic.
Honey Ale – 4.5% ABV – Amber ale suffused with the rich floral nectar of Cornish wild honey. Organic.
Azores Ale – 4.2% ABV – Pale Ale – Well bodied with underlying sweet malt, light suggestions of vanilla and caramel. Full but well-balanced hops with the inclusion of late First Gold and Cornish Fuggles. Vegan and Organic.

Doom Bar Ale – 4.3% ABV – Amber Ale – An aroma of resinous hop, sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a balanced, complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malt and a subtle yet assertive bitterness.
Sea Fury Ale – 5.0% ABV – Bitter – This beer first tempts the drinker with inviting roasted-dark berry aromas with full malt and berry fruit on the palate and subtlety sweet hints with a moreish hop finish.
Porthleven Ale – 4.8% ABV – Pale Ale – Straw-coloured and zesty, with strong citrus aromas, starting with a zip of lemon and lime in the mouth, and ending with a flash of passion fruit.
Betty Stogs Ale – 4.0% ABV – Copper Ale – a light malty aroma, a floral, even cedar taste, and a sharp tang of bitter grapefruit.
Lushingtons Ale – 4.2% ABV – IPA – Bursting with fruit, within its bittersweet scent you’ll pick up lime and mangoes with a little lychee. And its creamy texture contains a slight strawberry finish.
Every year, we try to mark the occasion to help shine a light on the real ale sector, alongside other pubs and breweries across the UK.
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on our industry and now more than ever, it’s important to support your local pubs and breweries to help keep them alive, open and at the heart of our communities.
This is your chance to support the real ale sector, local pubs and have a beer-illiant time in the process!
