We’re so pleased to announce that our very own Sally Pickles received an Unsung Hero Award in yesterday’s Cornwall Tourism Awards, to recognise all of the incredible hard work she has been doing throughout the pandemic.
There are a number of reasons why Sally is more than deserving of this award; she simply goes above and beyond in everything she does. Her unwavering support for The Bowgie Team is something that fuels the whole business, guaranteeing happy and positive staff members all year round, no matter what’s going on in the world. This was even recognised by the Great British Pub Awards last September, when The Bowgie won the Staff Welfare category for Sally’s outstanding support of furloughed team members throughout the harsh lockdown months of 2020.
And it’s not only the team who benefits from Sally’s fantastic work; her support is widely felt by the local community too. Live streaming on social media during lockdown meant that Sally could provide a daily window for her followers into the beautiful Crantock scenery, whether it was summer sun or winter storms, ensuring that The Bowgie did not lose the connection we have to our amazing community during COVID-19.
In addition to this, Sally opened up The Bowgie’s popular online weekly Yoga sessions to the public as well as her staff members, providing an hour’s worth of escapism and relaxation to anyone who needed it during these challenging times. From hosting virtual live music gigs for charity to donating food items to the local community, Sally has done everything possible to be there for anyone and everyone who has needed her.
And she’s not stopping there! Plans for The Bowgie’s new Wellbeing and Sensory Garden are well underway, thanks to Sally’s great success in applying for a £10,000 grant after her Great British Pub Award win. This will be something that the whole community will benefit from for years to come when visiting The Bowgie (and if you want to read all the amazing details, check out our Wellbeing and Sensory Garden blog post HERE!)
If that wasn’t enough, while carrying out all of this admirable work for the people around her, Sally has also been overseeing some enormous and absolutely stunning refurbishments to The Bowgie that were recently finished in November. Inspired by the natural coastal landscape, we now have a whole new look, including modernised exteriors and interiors, eco-friendly heating powered by renewable energy and an amazing, statement 360 degree bar – to name just a few changes!
To manage such a mammoth project during lockdown whilst giving so much of her time to support the people around her, Sally, not only are you an Unsung Hero, you are our SUPERHERO.
Huge congratulations Sally! And endless thanks for all that you do!
