We wanted to tell you about two very special women who passed away after suffering with the same cancers. Jane Longden and Joy Robinson were great friends who shared so many happy times and memories and touched the lives of many people across our County.
Joy, who was born in Crantock, was regarded as a pillar of the community. She editied Crantock Parish Magazine, she was Captain of St Carantoc Bell Tower and co-presented on Radio Cornwall for 14 years alongside Duncan Warren.
Jane moved to Cornwall in 1990 which was when she and Joy formed their friendship. Jane was the proprietor of Crantock dairy from 1990-2001. She was on the Cubert Parochial Council, twice President of Perranzabuloe Inner Wheel, and also a director of William Turner Master Cutlers (Est 1887).
Having shared a wonderful friendship, it is only fitting that they now share a memorial walk called ‘Moor to Sea Challenge’ on Saturday 5th September to raise money to enable Cornwall Hospice Care to continue providing love, care and expertise to those who need it.
That’s why we are supporting everyone taking part and it’s also why we are encouraging you to join them!
The Moor to Sea Challenge has been designed to encourage as many people as possible to take part, regardless of experience and levels of fitness. We are expecting to meet teams of all ages and abilities with all sorts of touching stories about Jane, Joy and Cornwall Hospice Care to be turning out in force to take part in their chosen stage.
Stage one is Jamaica Inn to Boscastle… that’s 16 miles across the beautiful Cornish Moorland to the stunning coast at Boscastle.
Stage two is Jamaica inn to Davidstow. That’s a beautiful and picturesque nine mile trek.
Stage 3 is Davidstow to Boscastle. At seven miles, it’s still a fair walk but it is the shortest stage offered to the teams.
If you want to take part there’s a £10 registration fee and a £20 sponsorship required for each team.
It’s not too late to enter, please visit Perranzabuloe Rotary Website or for more information
email perranrotary@hotmail.com.
This is a great way to remember the lives of two wonderful women and a fantastic opportunity to support one of Cornwall’s greatest charities whilst enjoying the beauty of our county.
