You have probably heard of Ben Skinner. He has surfed for Cornwall for 15 years now, winning a fair few celtic titles for Kernow along the way.
He rocks up at Crantock beach whenever the surf is worthy of his presence and we have to say, whenever we see him wading in we can’t help but feel excited. We would even go as far to say that you ain’t seen surfing until you’ve seen Skindog surf.
He is a modest chap and when asked for a random fact about himself he chose not to mention his 16 British Titles, the fact he was 2nd in the World Surfing Games, European Professional Longboard Champion AND Former English Champion but instead the random fact he gave us was ‘ I have a ginger beard’. Now we didn’t like to say, what with him being a total legend and everything but that’s kind of obvious; you only have to look at his face! Although we were hoping for an exclusive, juicy scoop or a confession of undying love for The Bowgie, we agree it is a random fact and we think he is wonderful, beautiful, amazing and we love him despite his ginger facial hair.
We asked Ben to name his drink of choice and of course he told us it was a pint of Skinners… after all, his parents do own Skinner’s brewery so if he said anything else he may end up grounded or something and we wouldn’t want to be responsible for anything so serious so we didn’t question him further on this matter. We did ask him where his favourite place was and which is his favourite Cornish beach but to be honest we were too distracted by his tousled golden mane to listen but we think he said something about Perrenporth and Crantock… sigh.
As the former English champion and a serious contender for future world titles, Ben Skindog Skinner really knows his stuff, so when you’re looking for a custom, high quality surfboard this is the best place to start http://www.skindogsurfboards.co.uk/ and when you’re looking for a surfing legend, Crantock when the surf’s up is your best bet… or you could hang on until the next Long Board Championships at the Bowgie. Here he is the other week collecting his first place trophy from our Sally.
