New decor update! We are so excited to have brought home no less than five beautifully painted milk churns to display in and around The Bowgie after attending the brilliant ‘Around Cornwall In 38 Churns’ auction in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care at Truro Cathedral on the 21st of September!
‘Around Cornwall In 38 Churns’ was an amazing collaborative art project set up by Newquay-based Sue Dennett. Artists from all over Cornwall were given a milk churn, kindly donated by fabulous Cornish business Rodda’s, to design, paint and decorate in their own unique style. You can see all of the beautiful churns on the Around Cornwall in 38 Churns or Cornwall Hospice Care websites.
The aim of the project was to showcase the county’s talented artists and stunning locations, while raising money for the amazing charity, Cornwall Hospice Care – a cause incredibly close to our hearts here at the Bowgie.
The artists’ amazing work was displayed and celebrated in the grand auction at Truro Cathedral on Wednesday 21st September, which we were very excited to attend and support – and between the fabulous art and the brilliant cause, we simply could not resist coming away with some glorious churns to display around The Bowgie!
The auction was a huge success, with the total amount raised standing at an incredible £49K. Below you’ll see the amazing churns created by the very talented Alex Moorse, Andy Pearce, David Kemp, Jenny Wiseman and Tracey Hunter, which we’re extremely proud to now be displaying around The Bowgie – so keep an eye out when you next visit!
Alex Moorse.
Since being reintroduced to art, over the last ten years Alex has been producing drawings, paintings, sculptures and photography, enjoying the freedom of expression and challenging contemporary art.
Andy Pearce.
Andy works from his studio and gallery in Newquay, Cornwall.
He tries to capture the beauty and changing light of the Cornish coast around where he lives in his work.
He normally starts with watercolour sketches that are painted “en plein air,” which are then are scaled up in acrylics back at his studio using the sketches and photos as references for larger pieces, either on canvas panels or paper.
David Kemp.
David has lived in West Cornwall for fifty years, inspired by the magnificent maritime and post industrial landscape.
His work is entertaining and imaginative but, characteristically, contains comment and criticism of the waste and pollution created by our consumer society.
David has churned out a romantic theme – cows coming home for milking and golden cows flying through a super sunset.
Jenny Wiseman.
Jenny found her passion for painting in 2013, but has always had a creative streak running through her, from flower arranging to soft furnishing, dressmaking to jewellery making.
Jenny’s main inspirations come from the land and sea, showing nature in all its profound glory. Colours, light and drama are all things that she looks for when choosing a subject to paint.
Tracey Hunter.
Tracey’s painting is a passion inspired by the mood, light and colours of the environment that surrounds her.
Her studio is based on the fringe of Wadebridge, North Cornwall. For a number of years her work has been painted in more of a traditional style, but Tracey has recently found the urge to explore and experiment further.
Tracey exhibits her paintings in galleries across Cornwall and now London, her work has sold internationally and added to many private collections.
We love these churns so much and hope you enjoy them too when you next visit! Drop us a comment and let us know which your favourite is!
