2020 was the hardest year we’ve ever experienced here at The Bowgie, and 2021 isn’t delivering much in the way of good news (so far!) BUT we keep finding small glimmers of hope and little rays of sunshine amidst the storm.
Yesterday we had an email from the Cornwall Tourism Awards to say that our very own Sally, Owner of The Bowgie, has been shortlisted in the ‘Unsung Hero’ category for her efforts throughout the pandemic last year.
From organising virtual events to online daily streaming from the beach, to free online yoga sessions and community support, Sally’s ambitions and enthusiasm for being a force for good and beacon of positivity throughout the Covid-19 crisis, has been nothing short of inspirational!
Sally has been doing all she can to support our team of up to 50 throughout the pandemic as well as neighbours with group messages, phone calls, video calls and Facebook groups! She’s been spreading positivity during times of adversity, talking to local radio, newspapers and trade bodies and when The Bowgie was able to open last year, she organised Cask Ale Week for Cornwall Hospice Care and Sober October for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Bowgie has also continued to sponsor all the sports clubs during 2020 and throughout the pandemic which include Newquay Hockey Club, Newquay RFC Hornets, Newquay AFC, as we know that other income streams for these valuable resources within our community are also suffering financially!
During this tough year, we have also been unwavering in our support of charities such as Crantock Christmas Lights, Crantock Surf Lifesaving Club, Cubert School PTA, Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust, Cornwall Good Seafood Guide (Cornwall Wildlife Trust) and the South West Coast Path Association, as we feel that there is a need to continue our long-standing support for these groups and charities. We do not want to lose any of these community ventures when the pandemic is over!
With The Bowgie only open for a very small period last year and currently closed for lockdown 3.0, Sally continues to find new ways to connect with people, not only her customers here in Cornwall but from across the UK and even the world. She’s determined to keep The Bowgie at the heart of the community, and is always finding ways to support people in any way she can during these unprecedented times.
We’d like to thank EVERY single person who has followed, liked or engaged with us over the last 10 months, you are all incredible and we’re proud to have such an amazing Bowgie family scattered across the globe. This award nomination is lovely recognition for Sally who never fails to make the world a better place.
The Cornwall Tourism Awards will be held online on the 25th February and we’d like to say a huge congratulations to all the other fantastic nominees in every category. CLICK HERE to view.
