Your mind needs blowing. Trust us. Here are 5 things that we hope will have the desired result. Keep reading for some serious head wafting.
1. What does the Cornish Flag Represent?
You’ll often see the black and white Cornish Flag fluttering in the breeze across our great county. It is called St Piran’s Banner and it takes inspiration from Cornwall’s mining heritage with the white cross representing lines of tin between dark molten rock.
2. Where did Stargazy Pie come from?
Cornwall is often given credit for the humble pasty but don’t forget Cornwall can also claim Startgazy Pie as one of it’s own dishes too.
Pilchard eggs and potatoes nestle beneath the pastry whilst fish heads poke through the pie crust ‘gazing’ towards the stars. Legend has it it originated in the village of Mousehole to celebrate the belly-filling catch of Tom Bawcock during a particularly stormy winter.
3. What is Cornwall’s Most Painted Scene?
Unless people are painting another Cornish Location in secret and stashing their work out of view under their bed, St Michaels Mount is the most painted scene in Cornwall. We’d like to estimate that there are more paintings of St Michael’s Mount than there are people in the world… but we would just be guessing so don’t quote us on that.
4. What language do Cornish People speak?
Well, you might not be able to tell after a pint of cider, but most of us speak English. However, the Cornish Language Kernowek which fell into disuse in the 19th Century is undergoing a revival with around 600 people listing it as their main language.
5. Where is the Universe’s best pub?
We don’t like to brag but The Bowgie Inn, Crantock is the Universe’s best pub. Ok so that isn’t our official title but we have it on good authority from a very well-travelled intergalactic tourist that he has never had a pint as good as the one he had with us.
So there you have it! We take it your mind is now well and truly blown but if not pay us a visit and we will serve you a drink or two which will definitely finish the job!
