1. Pirates drink rum, and pirates are awesome.
Arrrr! Drink up me hearties! Let’s kick things off with the obvious reason.
Cornish pirates have plundered our coastlines for centuries, their ships and smuggling tunnels littered and lined with bottles of the fermented sugar cane liquor. Many a festivity and brawl were fuelled by this golden spirit, and these Cornish booty lovers smuggled thousands of gallons across the oceans from the Caribbean and onto our shores.
So beloved are the legends of these wreckers, that our rugby team, the Cornish Pirates, adopted their name!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum…
2. Rum is so versatile!
Whereas many people don’t fancy a Gin and Tonic – you can mix rum with pretty much anything. If fresh juice is your tipple of choice, rum goes perfectly with apple, orange, pineapple, grapefruit, cranberry… We could go on and on.
The perfect party drinks are made with mixers that are alcoholic too! Rum goes hand in hand with ginger beer, poured over heaps of ice, in a massive glass and garnished with a squeeze of fresh lime.
3. Nothing says holiday like a rum cocktail.
Daiquiris, Mojitos and Pina Coladas are the epitome of mini-break.
When you picture yourself lounging by the pool, bikini clad, slapping on the tanning oil – are your hands ever empty? No, they are always preoccupied with a fancy glass, topped with a mini umbrella and brimming with some chilled, delicious, rum-something.
4. It’s your granddad’s 90th birthday?
Drink rum. Got a new job? Drink rum. Mrs broke up with you? Drink rum. It’s sunny? Drink rum.
There is literally always an occasion for rum.
Whether it’s to celebrate or drown your sorrows – rum has got you covered. It tastes great whatever your mood, whatever the weather and whatever it’s mixed with. Rum will never argue with you. Rum doesn’t care if you forgot to brush your teeth this morning. Rum has got your back, whenever, wherever.
5. Rum for Breakfast?!
Whether it’s day four of waking up in your sweaty festival tent, nearing the end of an apres-filled skiing holiday or beginning round two of your birthday celebrations – these mornings can seem pretty unachievable without caffeine. But there’s no better way of getting back in the party mood than by a little treat in your morning coffee.
Whether you like your rum dark, white or spicy and your coffee black, milky or strong, there is always a rum to perfectly pair with your caffeine fix.
After all, you can’t put gin in your coffee, can you?
