Going to the beach is great. Fact. Carrying all the stuff you need is not so great. But unfortunately, stuff is most definitely needed. We’ve seen people go stuff-free. They stand there shivering after the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worse as they wish they hadn’t left their towels and jumpers back at home. Then the same hatless, suncreamless, glassesless and flipflopless people dart to the shadows for respite from the unexpected (and unforgiving) sun.
When visiting Cornish beaches you need to be prepared for every eventuality which is why ‘stuff’ is essential.
Now that we have established the necessity of stuff, we have decided to increase the amount of stuff you haul around by sharing some beach items you never knew you needed!!!
We have found some brilliant ideas for things to take to the beach that won’t take up much extra space but will definitely bring more beach enjoyment…so before you jump feet first into the sand, take a minute to read this…you’ll be glad you did!
1. A Fitted Sheet.
This is genius. A perfect sand-free zone for anyone who enjoys a sandless space. Just imagine how this would help a crawling baby avoid facefulls of sand, imagine playing a board game free from pesky sand or simply imagine reading a book without trapping thousands of grains every time you turn the page.
2. An empty Sun Cream Bottle.
You need one that’s full as well to keep your skin safe, but an empty one can be useful by keeping your valuables safe. A handbag, purse or rucksack of valuables is very tempting for people to pinch on a busy beach…but no one would ever think of pinching a bottle of sun cream, unless of course they have read this blog!
3. A Sandwich Bag.
These days, we want to stay connected wherever we may be. Our smart phones are virtually glued to us so we understand the difficulty of trying to keep your devices safe on the beach. The humble sandwich bag comes to the rescue! It will protect your phone from greasy, suncream-slathered fingers, it will stop sand gathering in every crevice and it will protect it from moisture and seawater. You can even still use the touch screen through the plastic. Brilliant!!!
4. A lemon.
We all want to be beach babes and surf dudes and sunkissed locks are an essential ingredient. So, speed up the sun-kissing process with a squeeze of lemon juice in your hair. Just avoid your eyes and stay away from any wasps and you’ll be absolutely fine.
5. Talcum Powder.
Make sandy toes a thing of the past. This stuff absorbs water and oil from your skin which will, in theory, dry out the sand faster and allow it to drop off your skin quickly and easily. Whether it works or not, at least you’ll be left smelling baby fresh. Just make sure you apply it off the beach over a towel…we don’t want to end up with talc beaches!
So there you have it! 5 things you didn’t know you needed to take to the beach. Pop in and see us at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, or get in touch on our Facebook page if you have any brilliant beach essentials of your own that you’d like to share with us!
