It’s seriously cold now and we realise it’s getting some of you sun lovers a little bit down in the dumps. At The Bowgie Inn, Crantock we believe ‘down in the dumps’ is an unacceptable state of being. That’s why we have put together below possible cures for your winter blues. Our cure comes in a mug, it’s warm and can be taken as many times a day as required by the patient…. everyone is different so just listen to what your heart is telling you.
So cure your winter blues immediately with these 3 hot chocolates which you can find at The Bowgie (I’m afriad our recipes are top secret so we’ve found other alternatives!)
1. Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate.
For many, winter leaves them feeling lethargic. It saps them of their energy and turns them into sloth like creatures. For those people you need to awaken the senses and stir their emotions. So a combination of saltiness and sweetness is enough to restore their vigour and a continuous stirring action will stir them into life once more. This Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate is perfect!
Rub together the sugar and lemon juice then melt the mixture in a saucepan over a medium heat. whatever you do, don’t stop stirring. Stir stir stir until you’ve made a caramel. Keep going until it turns a dark amber colour.
Then Stir in the milk gradually.
Stir in the chocolate and let it melt before finishing your concoction with a big pinch of salt and one last stir.
Garnish with squirty cream and a dollop of caramel sauce and enjoy!
Ingredients:
550g of sugar
Teaspoon of lemon juice
900ml of milk
220g of milk Chocolate
60g of Dark Chocolate
Pinch of Salt
Caramel Sauce and Squirty Cream to Decorate.
2. Black Forest Gateau Hot Chocolate.
Some people need a bit of oomph. Some people need to feel a bit naughty. Some people need a little bit of cheekiness in their lives to feel complete. These are the people who love their skimpy summer shorts. They are the people who chase their mates round the beach with a water pistol. These are the people whose winter blues are easily banished with the indulgent sweetness of a black forest gateau hot chocolate.
Mix together the syrup, cocoa powder and a couple of table spoons of the milk. Gently heat the mixture and stir until thoroughly combined. Gradually stir in the remaining milk and heat to desired temperature. Decorate with dark chocolate sprinkles and squirty cream then sit back and marvel at your creation.
You will need:
3 tablespoons of cherry syrup
2 teaspoons of cocoa Powder
1 mug of milk Milk
Squirty cream and dark chocolate sprinkles to decorate.
3. White Hot Chocolate.
As pure as freshly fallen snow this is for the most serious cases. It is the magic of winter in consumable form. As each sip glides smoothly down your throat it will deliver a much needed dose of childlike awe and wonder. It will make you feel like the happiest of snowmen and will give you an overwhelming urge to make snow angels and watch snowflakes tumble from the sky.
Just heat up and mix together the following:
All you need is a big glug of milk.
A handful of white chocolate drops.
A Teaspoon of Vanilla extract.
Add some marshmallows for decoration and you are ready to go!
