EEEEEEEEEEEEK! Summer is almost here and we are soooooo excited. What’s that? You’re not feeling it? Then quickly read this list and you’ll soon feel the summer vibes.
- Blue Skies
It’s the most beautiful shade of blue there is. No photograph truly captures its gorgeousness and no painting truly matches its splendour. They are the perfect backdrop to everything we do in Cornwall…and with summer ahead, blue skies are most definitely on their way! Goodbye grey, bleak, clouds – it’s been nice knowing you but we have a new friend coming to town and his name is Mr Blue Sky.
- Strolling.
No one strolls in winter. We walk hurriedly from place to place all bundled up and clutching our collars tightly closed beneath our chin as we wish we had remembered to wear a scarf. We walk hunched, head down and purposefully. This is not walking for fun; it’s walking for a reason. We like walking for the sake of it. We like taking meandering paths and we like to stop and admire the view on the way. So instead of doing one of our suggested walks, do one of our suggested strolls instead. They are essentially the same – just the stroll takes twice as long. Here’s to the love of strolling. https://bowgie.com/out-about
- Light Evenings.
We love it when it doesn’t get dark until well after 8pm. The parents amongst you probably don’t love light evenings as much as most people. We know it means your children won’t go to bed as they think you are trying to trick them into going to sleep earlier than usual – but that is the only negative we can think of. Light evenings mean beer in the garden, light evenings mean barbecues on the beach. They mean dinner alfresco and they mean family time outside away from the telly! Surely all that is worth a few difficult bed times?
- Flowers.
Summer is just way more colourful. The dullest of scenes can be given a whole new lease of life when bathed in sunlight and sprinkled with the odd colourful bloom. Boring old bushes (don’t be rude) become something undeniably beautiful when they flower. Summer brings us beautiful bushes aplenty.
- Ice cream.
LOADS OF DELICIOUS CREAMY CORNISH ICE CREAM IN DOUBLE WAFER CONES WITH SAUCE, FLAKES AND SPRINKLES! It should be the law that these are consumed on a weekly – if not daily – basis. With the added stipulation that they have to be purchased from a pastel coloured ice cream van that belts out a playful (but slightly irritating) tune over and over again. THIS is summer.
- Wasps.
We know no one likes wasps, but you have to admit the arrival of wasps signals the arrival of Summer. Throwing away that ice cream wrapper becomes a military operation involving several family members and some pretty nifty footwork. Maybe wasps balance out the pleasure of summer – you know, the pleasure/ pain thing? Plus, if you think about it, there are much worse things than wasps and they are only really a problem if you sit on them. Also, black and yellow is a brilliant colour combo and they have a much better waistline than bumble bees….and they are less hairy.
- Flip flops.
O.M.G. We can’t wait for flip flop season. Our toes are literally raring to go. They want to see the light of day. They want to feel the fresh air and frolic in the sand. Every outfit looks cool with flip flops and there are no exceptions (except a suit – but even then if you have a beard we think flip flops work). Yes, we don’t mind the inevitable blister and the odd stubbed toe as the benefits far outweigh the negatives. The best memories are made in flip flops…
- Sun Bathing.
It feels good. Even if your are fully clothed and sat on a bench – the sun on your face feels good. It’s as if you can feel your body producing vitamin D. Sensible sunning of course…
- That Summer Song.
Every year, there is a special summer song. A song that defines the fun you’re having. A song that in the future will take you back to happy memories of walks on the beach and cider at The Bowgie (of course). We wonder what the song of summer 2016 will be?
- Less Clothes.
We aren’t talking about less clothes in a naked kinda way – we mean less clothes in an easier way for everyone. Less washing, less drying, less time getting ready, less stuff to put away…just an all round easier way to dress for a whole 3 months at least!
- Our Diary!!!
There’s so much going on at The Bowgie Inn, Crantock, this summer it’s making us buzz with excitement which is why we had to add this extra number to our list of 10. Keep checking our website and Facebook page for all the up to date information of what’s going on. The main event of course, is our Ale Fest 2016 held on the August Bank Holiday weekend which is an extravaganza of real ale/ ciders, local food, games, face painting and activities to name just a few of the highlights. And all in support of Cornwall Hospice Care…from our diary to yours.
